Erin is standing...

Hi Air-bear,

Here is a quick update. You are pulling yourself up on furniture now! Over the weekend you have gotten quite good at climbing up on your toy table and standing all by yourself. We are so proud of you even though you have not figured out how to get down (see your picture).

You are also making great strides at clapping but you show no interest in waving yet. We might have to send you off to waving boot camp. Many times you are holding your own bottle for a long time. That helps us quite a bit.

Evie has become more assertive and has started to take toys away from you so the playing field is a bit more even which is a good thing.

Mom and I love you so much and we can't be happier you are in our lives. Its so exciting to watch you learn and grow. We look forward to watching you learn and grow for many many years to come!

Bye for now,
Dad

Erin got a TOOTH!!

Erin,

I just got a call from Mom. You, Evelyn and mom are still in Florida enjoying an extra couple of weeks while I finish up classes. Mom just called and told me you got your first tooth today. And you've apparently gotten much better at crawling too. I heard you have run burns on your knees because you don't lift them up yet. That will be very cute to see.

Oh and one more thing... You like to steal your sister's toys. What's up with that? No matter what toys you and your sister have, the one you want is the one Evelyn has. Don't be such a bully :). I guess now that you are crawling you come across the room towards Ev, take her toy, and then crawl away. Meanwhile since Ev can't crawl yet she just has to sit there watching you lumber towards her, gets her toy pillaged, and then has to watch you crawl away.

I guess this should be good motivation to get her to crawl herself. Be nice to your sister!

Love, Dad

Erin is crawling!!!

Hi Erin,

You have just started crawling and it is so funny!! It's hard for an adult to imagine just how hard crawling is, but you certainly have your frustrations! You don't like to crawl in the evening when you're getting tired. But, in the morning you zoom all around. You have even developed a bit of a mean streak! You crawl over to your sister, steal her toy, and crawl away! That's not nice! But, it sure is funny. It is so much fun to be your mom. I love you with all of my heart and enjoy every moment we are together.
Love,
Mom

Marco Island Pics

Our family has been going to Marco Island, FL for years.  Since I was about 5 years old.  It is our home away from home.  Here are pics from the girls first trip to Marco.  Many firsts here...  Erin started crawling and popped a tooth!  Ev rolled from room to room - who needs crawling???  The girls also got to meet their great-grandparents - Dave's grandfather and grandmother on his mothers side.  That was a special day trip for the family.

Zygosity Test

Well, the results are in! Your dad and I had a very strong opinion that you were fraternal twins. And, the results confirm that. We would have been shocked if you were identical!!

Evelyn - you have mastered rolling over and are doing it all the time.

Erin - you found your voice and are hooting and hollering all the time!

Today is your 4 month birthday - your dad and I are the luckiest people in the whole world!!

All my love,
Mom

Dear Mrs. Detlefsen:

Our laboratory has successfully completed your zygosity test and your test results have been mailed. Thank you for your interest in our zygosity testing services. As requested when you placed your order, we have included a copy of your test results in this email.

Regards,
Robert Jackson, Business Manager

---- COPY OF TEST RESULTS #14442-060919 ----

We are pleased to report to you the results of the twin zygosity test that you requested. Analysis of the DNA indicates that Erin Lenore Detelfsen and Evelyn Grace Detelfsen are dizygotic, or more commonly referred to as fraternal twins.

We first isolated DNA from cheek cells from the swab kits that were returned to our lab. We amplified the DNA using a technique called PCR. Next, we analyzed 7-8 standard DNA markers (D5S818, D13S317, D7S820, D16S539, vWA, TH01, TPOX, and CSF1PO) and determined that the highly variable DNA markers were different for 2 or more markers between the twins. Thus, there is greater than a 99% probability that the twins are dizygotic.

As stated in our testing Terms and Conditions, these test results are not qualified for any medical or legal purpose. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about these test results.

Thank you for choosing Proactive Genetics.

Turning a New Leaf...

Hi Little Bird (Evelyn)...
You are now close to 4 months old - 3 months and 3 weeks to be precise. In fact, tomorrow is your baptism! It is very cold - about 40 degrees and we've already had snow which is very early.

Yesterday you decided to roll over from stomach to back - that's the easy way. After you did it a few times ... pop, your sister tried it. Today, you rolled over from back to stomach. It took you a good 20 minutes or so, but it was very fun to see you land on your belly and then not be too sure what to do next. Erin has not yet mastered this - she tries, but can't get all the way over! I always knew you'd roll first - you've been thinking about it for some time. I saw you do it twice today and it really made my day. Tomorrow you and sissy will make my day when you take a step toward having a strong faith.

Pretty much every day you and your sister make my day!
Another fun step in your fabulous life!
Love - Mom

And, when I say Love please know that I love you with every fiber of myself. You and your sister are the most precious miracles in my life. Our family is the most important thing to me.

Do you know why I call you little bird? When you are very tired or sad or hungry you make the sweetest cry - it sounds like a little bird. Your cries are typically more polite than your sisters - she pretty much wails! But, you've been known to shake a few walls as well... Sometimes I call Erin big bird - I think that is a funny name for her as well - in some strange way it is so appropriate.
Gotta run!
Love - Mom
